Hey guys! I’m back with a new post finally. In this post, I wanted to talk about one of my classes. I’m taking a course call Perspectives on happiness. Which obviously is about happiness. Now I’m only about half-way into the semester but I’ve have learned a lot about happiness itself and what makes people happy.
We’ve done assignments like smiling all day to asking people over the age of 65 about what happiness means to them. There are various factors such as social and economic factors to being happy. We’ve compared happiness over time and throughout different cultures. We’ve also looked at happiness from a scientific point of view.
So in this post, I wanted to share with you guys methods from my class on how to improve your own happiness!
- Spend more time with friends and family
Humans are not meant to be alone. We are social creatures. It is proven that having close relationships with friends and family can improve your happiness. Laughing is shown to improve happiness and I mean who doesn’t like laughing with their friends.
Humans are not supposed to be sedentary. Research has shown that physical activity improves one’s happiness. When you’re moving around, it causes blood to flow in the body and increase endorphins which is the chemical that makes people happy. Not only that, it reduces stress and is a remedy for people with depression.
I’m not saying that everyone should join a gym but some form of physical movement is good for your happiness. for example, something simple like going for a walk of dancing around the house is a great mood booster.
- Do less and Take more breaks
Stress is a huge factor in people’s unhappiness. It can also be a cause of depression. But some stress is actually good for you. The problem is, is that we do too much work without taking the right amount of breaks in between.
For every hour of work, we need to take a 15-minute break. We need at least one day off from work or a vacation once a year. But unfortunately, some of us don’t have the luxury of taking vacations or a day off but give you at least one day to recharge.
- Be mindful
Be in the now. Take 20 minutes or an hour to meditate and take the time to focus on your breathing. There is no right or wrong way to meditate. If you mess up just start over again. Yor body
- Be grateful and be appreciative
When your grateful, you appreciate what you have instead of constantly wanting more. Every week or day list you should list 5 things that you are grateful for. It has shown when you are grateful, your happiness increases.
This is a video that I watched in my class about happiness Happy 101 It’s very informative and I hope it is beneficial to you.
