Memorial day weekend in South Jersey

Ah Memorial Day weekend. A favorite amongst many people because it’s a three day weekend and it’s the official kick off to summer. Which means backyard BBQ’s, heading to the beach and honoring the men and women who have risk their lives for this country.

If you live in south jersey you kind of dread Memorial day weekend because it means that all of the shoobies are coming back.  or those who don’t know what a shoobie is, it’s a term used to describe a tourist who visits the seashore for the summer. It’s mostly rich New Yorkers and Philadelphians. We hate it because no one knows how to drive and they don’t know beach etiquette. But we need their money to keep our local economy flowing.

Unfortunately the weather over here in jersey sucked for memorial day weekend. It was gloomy and rainy Saturday and Monday.

Luckily for me I was able to beat the shoobie traffic by heading to the beach Friday morning for a surf session. I headed over to Brigantine beach jetty, which is very popular during the summer.

What  I like about this beach is that it’s very quiet and barely anyone is there. which is perfect because my surfing skills aren’t the greatest lol.

Saturday my mom and I decided to try a new Thai restaurant that we’ve never been too. No one was throwing a BBQ so we decide to go eat something different. the place we went to is called Chaba Thai, located in Linwood NJ. I highly recommend because the have $9.99 lunch specials. I ordered the yellow curry, which consisted of egg noodles, bamboo shoot, onions, shirmp, and fried egg noodles on top.

It tasted as good as it looked.

Sunday was the nicest day out of the entire weekend. My friend and I decided to go get brunch at a restaurant called Johnny’s café in Margate NJ. I got the snap crackle pop French toast with bacon and a mimosa. Very good food and very affordable.

Margate is a popular place where all of the shoobies stay for the summer. The streets were packed with tourist riding their bikes and walking around. It’s not a big town. there’s a few boutiques, popular surf shop, a bunch of restaurants/bars and the beach of course. Margate is also famous for the Lucy the elephant statue.

After breakfast my friend and I decided to check out the surf shop and  walk on the beach. We were taken back by the amount of people there. It looked liked something you would see on spring break in Florida.  Honestly the water was freezing and the it was pretty windy but shoobies will still go anyway.

Finally Monday was gloomy and cold so I decide to spend the day watching Portlandia on Netflix and write this post. Normally I work memorial dat weekend but I can at least say I spent the weekend at the beach.

That’s all for now. I hope you guys enjoyed and feel free to share what you did for memorial day weekend

ciao!
